About Tillandsia ionantha Rosita Giant clone

Tillandsia ionantha Rosita is a named selection grown for one thing: it blushes rose pink rather than the hard scarlet most ionantha forms produce. This is the giant clone of that selection.

Size is the difference. Where standard Rosita stays small like any ionantha, the giant clone grows noticeably larger while keeping the softer pink colouring.

The rosette is dense and symmetrical, built from short leaves with an even silver coat. As bloom approaches, colour rises from the centre outward until most of the plant has turned.

Grades run from 1 inch upward. That combination of a bigger plant and a gentler colour makes it a useful contrast beside the red-blushing ionantha crosses.

Growing Tillandsia ionantha Rosita Giant clone: Care Guide

Ionantha forms are the easiest plants in the genus. Therefore light is really the only variable that matters.

  • Light: High light, including direct morning sun. Poor light means no blush at all.
  • Water: Soak 15 to 20 minutes every 7 to 10 days.
  • Drying: Invert and shake. The dense centre traps water where leaves overlap.
  • Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
  • Temperature: Comfortable from 50°F to 100°F. No frost.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength to strengthen the pink.
  • Mounting: No soil. Glue or wire to cork, or grow loose in a bowl.
  • Pups: It offsets generously after bloom. Leave them attached to build a clump.
