About Tillandsia ionantha x concolor select red
Tillandsia ionantha x concolor is a cross made for colour, and this is the select red clone, chosen from a batch for the strongest blush.
Ionantha is the parent that colours. As bloom approaches it floods red through the upper leaves, and that trait carries straight into the hybrid.
Concolor supplies the frame. It brings a stiffer, more symmetrical rosette and a heavier trichome coat than ionantha manages alone, so the red sits against silver rather than green.
Two grades run from 2 inches to 5 inches wide. At $6 this is one of the cheapest ways to put reliable colour on a retail bench.
Growing Tillandsia ionantha x concolor select red: Care Guide
The red is entirely light-driven. Therefore how brightly you grow it decides how well it sells.
- Light: High light, including direct morning sun. A shaded plant stays grey-green and loses its point.
- Water: Soak 15 to 20 minutes every 7 to 10 days.
- Drying: Invert and shake. The tight centre traps water where the leaves overlap.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: Comfortable from 50°F to 100°F. No frost.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength. Feeding deepens and prolongs the blush.
- Mounting: No soil. Glue or wire to cork, grouped for a stronger display.
- Pups: Offsets follow bloom generously. Leave them attached to build a clump.
