About Tillandsia Capitata Yellow Large Form
Tillandsia Capitata Yellow is the outlier in a species that almost always turns red. At bloom this form flushes warm gold and butter yellow instead, which makes it genuinely useful for breaking up a display of red-colouring plants.
This is the large form, so it grows well past the size of a typical capitata. Mature plants reach 9 inches and up, with broad leaves curving outward into a full, rounded rosette.
Foliage is silver-grey with a fairly heavy trichome coat. As flowering approaches, colour rises from the centre outward until the inner two thirds of the plant have turned.
Four grades are available from a 4 inch mini upward. Capitata is a dependable, forgiving species, which makes the yellow form an easy upsell to customers who already know the red.
Growing Tillandsia Capitata Yellow Large Form: Care Guide
Capitata is a straightforward xeric grower. Therefore soak and drain, and give it as much light as you can.
- Light: High light, including direct morning sun. Light intensity is what determines how strongly the gold develops.
- Water: Soak 20 to 30 minutes every 10 days. Large plants hold reserves well.
- Drying: Invert and shake. The broad leaf bases cup water at the centre, and a wet crown rots.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: Comfortable from 55°F to 100°F. It takes heat easily.
- Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
- Mounting: No soil. Large grades are heavy enough to want wire rather than glue.
- Pups: Offsets follow bloom reliably. Separate at one third size, or leave them to cluster.
