About capillaris Type 3 clumps

capillaris Type 3 is one of several numbered stock ranges we carry of Tillandsia capillaris. As with our other numbered capillaris listings, the “Type” number tracks which growing batch and source range the plants came from — it isn’t a distinct named form, and we’d rather say that plainly than dress it up.

Type 3 ships as small 2-3 plant clumps: enough to look like an established grouping on arrival, but still small and affordable. It sits in the middle of our capillaris lineup on both price and clump size.

Capillaris itself is a fine-leaved, grass-like clumping species. A 2-3 plant clump gives a shop a head start over a single seedling without paying the premium of our larger multi-pup batches.

It’s a practical mid-tier pick for filling out a display of small xeric clumpers, or for a buyer building a capillaris section across several price points.

Because it’s already a small clump rather than a single plant, it also handles mounting and handling a bit better than an individual seedling would.

Growing capillaris Type 3: Care Guide

Run this clump on the same xeric schedule as our other capillaris stock. Soak it 10-14 days, then invert and shake out water trapped between the small plants.

  • Water: Soak 10-14 days, then invert and shake dry.
  • Light: High light with strong airflow.
  • Feeding: Diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer monthly supports continued clumping.
  • Mounting: Small clumps mount well with E-6000 Tillandsia Glue on cork.
  • Clumping: Leave the 2-3 plants attached to keep building the mat.

Feed it TillyBoost Fertilizer on a regular cycle, browse more compact clumpers in our Rare Air Plants category, or read the air plant care guide for soak-and-dry basics. Reference: Tillandsia.
