About the petrified wood pot

The petrified wood pot is custom made for us from genuine petrified wood, fossilised timber turned to stone over millions of years. The pots are cut and hollowed from the stone, and they cannot be found anywhere else.

Each pot shows the grain of the original wood in the colours of the minerals that replaced it: reds, browns, creams and greys. Singles ship in a random colour; the 20-pack includes a variation of colours.

Because it is a natural stone, minor fissures or chips may be evident on the occasional pot. This does not detract from the beauty of each unique piece, and our photos show what to expect.

We sell singles at $5.50 and 20-packs at a discount. The pots are heavy for their size, so large orders may carry additional shipping, billed separately.

These are very special pots and make wonderful high-end gifts. For a shop, a petrified wood pot with a xerographica or a harrisii in it is a premium piece with a story. The stone will outlast everything else on the shelf.

Using the petrified wood pot with air plants

Stone has no drainage and holds cold, so the plant sits in the pot dry and comes out to water. Soak it, shake it, let it dry fully, then set it back. A slim-based plant can be set in loose. A wider rosette can rest on the rim with the base just inside. Stone pots are stable and heavy. That makes them the right choice for a top-heavy plant that tips a ceramic pot over. Give the piece bright light, and wipe the stone dry if it is splashed; it needs no other care.

  • Fits: One plant with a slim base: young xerographica, harrisii, ionantha, stricta, streptophylla.
  • Mounting: Set in loose. The weight of the stone holds it.
  • Watering: Remove the plant to soak. Return it dry.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer during the soak.
  • Placement: Bright light on a desk, counter or windowsill.
  • Care of the pot: Wipe dry. Stone is permanent.
