About Uniheat shipping warmers
Uniheat shipping warmers are air-activated heat packs for boxes that travel through freezing weather. We offer 72 hour and 96 hour warmers. Choose the 72 hour pack for a standard Priority Mail transit. Then step up to the 96 hour pack when the route is longer or the forecast is severe.
We sell them singly, and in bulk lots of 30, 50 or 90 for the 72 hour pack and 66 for the 96 hour pack. The bulk lots suit a shop that ships its own plants in winter.
When you add a warmer to a plant order, we activate it and pack it with the plants. If you want warmers for your own shipments instead, email info@wholesaletillandsias.com as soon as you order. We will then send them unopened.
A warmer is not a guarantee. Even so, in hundreds of winter shipments we have had only two problems. We ship by USPS Priority Mail, so the risk lies at the delivery end. If the carrier leaves a box on a porch or in a lock box in extreme cold, the plants will likely freeze. Please plan for someone to receive the box.
For a shop in a cold climate, the rule is simple. If the plants travel to or through freezing weather, add at least one warmer. Add more for a large order. Then make sure the box will not sit outside.
Using Uniheat shipping warmers with air plants
The pack warms when air reaches it, so open the outer wrapper only when you are ready to pack. Shake it, wait a few minutes for it to warm, and then tape it to the inside of the box lid. Never put it directly against the plants, because contact heat scorches leaves. Wrap the plants in paper, leave a little air space, and add crumpled paper for insulation. Finally, close the box promptly, since the pack needs a small air supply, not an open flow. One pack heats a small or medium box for its rated time.
- Fits: Any box of plants shipped through freezing weather.
- Method: Open, shake, wait, then tape to the lid away from the plants.
- Duration: 72 or 96 hours from activation.
- Feeding: Plants arriving from the cold need water first, then diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer a week later.
- Receiving: Unpack at once and let the plants come to room temperature before soaking.
- Care of the plant: A plant that arrives soft or translucent has frozen; contact us the same day.
