About Tillandsia disticha green

Tillandsia disticha green form is the green-leaved form of a variable Tillandsia species from Ecuador and Peru. Where the grey form wears a heavy trichome coat, this one is smooth and green, so the shape shows more clearly.

The shape is the point. Thin, upright leaves rise from a bulbous base that is thick with trichomes at the bottom. It looks like a green fountain on a silver bulb.

It grows tall. Smalls are 4 to 6 inches, and extra-large plants reach 14 to 20 inches. The bloom is a branched spike with yellow flowers.

We grade it in four sizes. Compared with our giant grey form, the green form is the choice for buyers who want height without bulk.

Disticha is a collector’s plant, and the green form is the less common one. Stock it beside the grey form and let customers compare the two.

Growing Tillandsia disticha green: Care Guide

Green leaves mean less sun protection and more thirst than the grey form. Water more, and shade a little. The green form bruises more easily than the grey, so handle the tall leaves gently when unboxing. Once mounted it is no more difficult than the grey form, only thirstier.

  • Light: Bright indirect light. Avoid hot afternoon sun.
  • Water: Soak 20 minutes every 7 to 10 days.
  • Drying: Invert and shake hard. The bulb traps water.
  • Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
  • Temperature: 45°F to 95°F. No frost.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
  • Mounting: Wire the bulb to a tall mount. Big plants are heavy, so anchor them well.
  • Pups: One to three pups from the base after bloom.
