About blooming chiapensis giant
This is the blooming chiapensis giant listing: the huge clone from our Tillandsia chiapensis giant form base listing, shipped while the plants are in spike. Stock is added when a crop flowers and is available while supplies last.
Chiapensis blooms on a stout spike with broad, flat pink bracts and violet flowers, and it is one of the longest-lasting displays in the genus; the bracts hold their colour for months.
This giant clone does something the species normally does not: it forms multiple bracts, so a blooming plant carries a branched, many-headed spike instead of a single paddle.
We grade blooming plants from 4-inch minis and 6-inch smalls through 8-inch mediums and 10-to-12-inch larges to extra-larges 12 inches wide and clumps of a mother with five pups. Plants are sold as pictured: you receive the plant in the photo.
A giant chiapensis in bloom is a specimen for a shop window, and it keeps its bracts long enough to sell twice over. The mother pups from the base afterward.
Growing blooming chiapensis giant: Care Guide
Chiapensis is a thick-leaved, silver-scaled plant from the dry side, and in bloom it wants bright light, moving air and light watering. Mist while the flowers are open and keep water off the bracts, which spot when wet. After the flowers, a soak every ten days or so with a hard shake is the routine, because the thick leaves hold water at the base. Sun deepens the pink of the bracts. A big plant is heavy and wants a solid mount or a wide bowl. Leave the spike on until it dries; the bracts stay decorative long after the last flower.
- Light: Bright light with direct sun for part of the day.
- Water: Mist while in flower. Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days after.
- Drying: Invert and shake. Thick leaves hold water at the base.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. No frost.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength; skip while in flower.
- Mounting: Wire to a solid mount or set in a wide bowl.
- Pups: Two to five from the base after bloom.
