About blooming Tillandsia jequiensis

This blooming Tillandsia jequiensis is our base jequiensis listing caught in bloom, not a separate plant. As we note there, “jequiensis” as we sell it is a Tillandsia paleacea relative with flat, wide leaves, not the formally described Brazilian species that shares the trade name; we’re repeating that honest caveat here rather than dropping it.

It’s a rare offering even without the bloom, rarely seen in cultivation, and the flowering window adds a reason to move stock now rather than later.

Because it comes from a dry, sand-dune habitat, older leaves on this stock can show a light algae film; that’s cosmetic and washes off or peels away easily, not a sign of a problem.

Available while supplies last, this listing draws from the same limited stock as the base plant, just timed to the flowering window.

Once bloom passes, this same rare plant continues to be sold from the base jequiensis listing linked above.

Growing blooming Tillandsia jequiensis: Care Guide

Mist rather than soak while it’s in flower, keeping the spike dry, then return to strict xeric care once bloom fades.

  • Water: Mist during bloom; resume a 10-14 day soak-and-invert schedule after, draining immediately.
  • Light: High light and strong airflow, mimicking open dune exposure.
  • Feeding: Diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer monthly, applied lightly.
  • Algae: Wash or peel off any green film on older leaves.
  • After bloom: See the base listing for standard year-round care.

Feed it TillyBoost Fertilizer sparingly, see the base Tillandsia jequiensis listing for year-round stock, browse more seasonal bloomers in our Currently in Bloom category, or check the air plant care guide for xeric basics.
