About Tillandsia chapeuensis
Tillandsia chapeuensis comes from the Chapada Diamantina in Bahia, Brazil. It grows on bare rock in campo rupestre, the high, stony grassland that produces some of the toughest plants in the Tillandsia genus.
Leaves are narrow, stiff and heavily silvered. The plant grows upright rather than flat, stacking its leaves into a slim column instead of spreading into a wide rosette.
It clumps steadily as it ages. Older plants build dense colonies that hold together well, and a good clump has far more retail presence than a single.
We offer four sizes, from small at 3 to 4 inches through to extra large at 10 inches. Brazilian rock species stay uncommon in wholesale, so this is a useful line to carry.

Rock-dwelling and fully exposed in habitat. Therefore this plant wants light and dislikes staying damp.
- Light: High light all day. It grows unshaded on rock, so direct morning sun suits it and keeps the silver bright.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days. It stores water well and forgives a missed week.
- Drying: Invert and shake, especially on clumps. Water trapped between stacked plants is the usual cause of loss.
- Airflow: Strong airflow, which matters more as the colony thickens.
- Temperature: Comfortable from 45°F to 95°F. Cool nights are no problem at all.
- Feeding: Feed monthly through the growing season with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
- Mounting: No soil. Mount on rock or cork, matching how it grows in habitat.
- Pups: Offsets come steadily. Leave them attached, because the clump is what customers want.
