About Tillandsia albida dwarf
Tillandsia albida dwarf form, also sold as var. minor, is a compact form of Tillandsia albida, a species endemic to Mexico. The foliage is pale green to white, and the whole plant looks frosted.
It grows along a stem. New rosettes form as the stem lengthens, so a single quickly becomes a cluster of white heads. Plants are 2 to 3 inches tall.
The flowers are light cream, on a short spike. They are quiet, but the white foliage carries the display all year.
Albida is prolific. It is one of the fastest-clustering silver plants we grow, and it tolerates dry conditions that would stress a green species.
The dwarf form suits terrarium kits, small holders and mixed white displays. It gives you the albida look at a fraction of the size of the standard form.
Growing Tillandsia albida dwarf: Care Guide
Albida grows on cliffs in dry central Mexico. So it is thoroughly xeric: strong light, quick drying, and little water. It is also one of the most forgiving plants on this list, provided it never sits wet. In a humid greenhouse, back off the soaks and rely on misting, because the dense white clusters take longer to dry than they look.
- Light: Very bright light with direct sun.
- Water: Soak 15 minutes every 10 to 14 days, or mist weekly.
- Drying: Shake and hang. Stems hold water between rosettes.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: 35°F to 100°F. It handles heat and cold.
- Feeding: Feed lightly every 4 to 6 weeks with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer.
- Mounting: Glue the base to wood or cork and let the stem grow outward.
- Pups: Constant, along the stem. Leave them on.
