About Tillandsia roseiflora x chapeuensis
Tillandsia roseiflora x chapeuensis brings together two Brazilian species that rarely reach the wholesale market at all. Both parents come from the rocky, high-light campo rupestre of eastern Brazil. As a result, this is a tough plant that looks delicate.
Roseiflora contributes the flower. Chapeuensis contributes the dense silver trichome coat and the habit of building slowly into tight clumps.
Leaves are narrow, stiff and heavily silvered. The plant does not sprawl. Instead it stacks, forming a compact cushion that reads as much older than it is.
We sell these as small established clumps rather than singles. Clumps establish faster, and they give a retail customer something with presence straight out of the box.
Growing Tillandsia roseiflora x chapeuensis: Care Guide
Both parents are rock-dwelling and drought-adapted. Therefore treat this as a xeric plant and err on the dry side.
- Light: High light. These grow exposed on rock in habitat, so bright light all day suits them and keeps the silver bright.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days. In humid climates, stretch that further.
- Drying: Clumps trap water between plants. Always invert and shake, because moisture sitting inside a clump is the usual cause of loss.
- Airflow: Strong airflow matters more here than with single plants.
- Temperature: Happy from 55°F to 95°F. It handles cool nights better than most.
- Feeding: Feed monthly through the growing season with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer. Growth is slow, so feeding makes a visible difference.
- Mounting: Never pot it in soil. Mount on cork or rock, or leave the clump sitting in an open dish.
- Growth rate: Slow. A clump of this size represents years, which is worth reflecting in your retail price.
