About the octagonal ceramic pot
The octagonal ceramic pot is a small, faceted handcrafted pot for single air plants. It stands about 2.25 inches tall and 1.75 inches across, and the cavity inside runs 1.75 inches deep.
The eight flat faces catch light differently from a round pot, so a row of them on a shelf looks crisp and modern. In addition, you can choose from six colours: white, charcoal, blush, mint, midnight and peach.
We sell them in packs of ten at $15, which works out to $1.50 a pot. Because we hand craft and hand paint each one, minor imperfections are part of the product.
Large orders ship by UPS or FedEx Ground and may carry an additional shipping charge, which we bill separately.
This is the pot for volume. For example, a tray of octagonal pots in mixed colours with a small ionantha in each makes a ready-made retail display. As a result, the price leaves plenty of room on the finished piece.
Using the octagonal ceramic pot with air plants
The cavity suits a plant with a base under about 1.5 inches, for example ionantha in any form, a small stricta, a young harrisii or a scaposa. Set the plant in loose, because the pot has no drainage, and then lift it out to water. Soak it, shake it, dry it and replace it. Otherwise a wet plant sits in a puddle and rots. Glazed ceramic does not breathe, so the drying step matters more here than it does with cork or wood. Also keep the pots in bright light. Rotate stock too, so no plant sits in the same pot for months without a full soak.
- Fits: Small plants with a base under 1.5 inches, for example ionantha, small stricta and scaposa.
- Mounting: Set the plant in loose. It needs no glue.
- Watering: Remove the plant to soak, then return it dry.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer during the soak.
- Placement: Bright indirect light. A sunny sill also works.
- Care of the pot: Wipe dry. Hand painted, so do not scrub.
