About the hooped seashell hanger
The hooped seashell hanger is a hand-knotted macramé net hanger with a rigid hoop at the mouth. A maker produces it exclusively for Davis Farms. The hoop holds the net open, so a plant or a shell sits in a cradle instead of a pinched pouch.
We offer three lengths: about 12, 16 and 20 inches including the hoop. Because each hanger is hand made, the lengths are approximate and the knotting varies slightly.
The open cradle takes bigger plants than a plain net. For example, a small or medium xerographica, a large harrisii, or most other medium and large plants sit well in it.
Hangers are light, so they add nothing to the shipping cost of an order. Plants and shells are not included.
For a shop, the hooped hanger turns a large plant into a hanging display in seconds. Set a xerographica in the hoop, hang it in the window, and the plant becomes the product. In addition, the hanger holds a big shell with a plant in it, so it also works with the rest of the shell range.
Using the hooped seashell hanger with air plants
Set the plant into the hoop so the base sits in the net and the leaves spread over the rim. Nothing needs glue, because the net holds the plant by its shape. Then hang the loop from a hook, a curtain rod or a branch. To water, lift the plant out, soak it, shake it and let it dry before it goes back. Alternatively, mist a large plant in place, since the net drains freely. Hang it in bright indirect light, and turn it now and then so the plant grows evenly. A net hanger dries fast, so it never holds water against the plant.
- Fits: Medium and large plants, for example xerographica, large harrisii, streptophylla or a large shell.
- Mounting: Set in the hoop. No glue needed.
- Watering: Lift out to soak, or mist in place.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer in the soak.
- Placement: Hang in bright indirect light near a window.
- Care of the hanger: Let it dry after misting. It lasts for years indoors.
