About E-6000 Tillandsia glue

E-6000 Tillandsia glue is the adhesive we use to fix air plants to mounts, and it is safe to use on the plants themselves. Once it cures, it is waterproof, so you can mist and soak a glued plant without the bond letting go.

We sell it in four tube sizes: 0.18 ounce, 0.5 ounce, 1 ounce and 3.7 ounce. The three larger sizes come in a blister pack, so they hang on a peg and sell straight from the rack. The 0.18 ounce tube ships without a pack, and it is the size to slip into a kit.

A small tube goes a long way. A pea-sized dab holds a small plant, so a 1 ounce tube mounts dozens of plants. For a workshop or a production bench, the 3.7 ounce tube is the economical choice.

Because E-6000 stays slightly flexible after it cures, it copes with the small movements of a plant on wood or shell. Hot glue, by contrast, goes brittle and can cook the base of the plant.

For a shop, glue is the second item in every mounting sale. Sell the plant, sell the display, and then sell the tube that joins them. The blister pack makes it a rack item rather than a drawer item.

Using Tillandsia glue with air plants

First, make sure the plant is dry. Put a small dab of glue on the mount, and then press the base of the plant into it. Hold it for a moment until it grips. Avoid the centre of the plant, because new roots and pups come from the base and need air. Next, let the glue cure for a full day before the first watering. After that, mist or dip the mounted piece as normal. Work in a ventilated room, since the glue has a strong solvent smell until it dries. For a plant you will want to lift off later, use Tillandsia Wire instead.

  • Fits: Any plant on any mount, for example cork, wood, shells, urchins and ceramic.
  • Method: Dab on the mount, press the dry base in, hold briefly.
  • Cure: Wait 24 hours before watering.
  • Feeding: Feed a glued plant monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer in the mist.
  • Ventilation: Use in a ventilated space and cap the tube at once.
  • Care of the plant: Keep glue off the leaves and out of the centre.
