About Tillandsia roseoscapa thick leaf form

Tillandsia roseoscapa is named for its flower stem. The scape emerges a clear rose pink, and against silver foliage that contrast is the reason growers seek the species out.

This is the thick leaf selection. Leaves are noticeably stouter than the ordinary form, which makes the plant sturdier in transit and slower to dry out on a warm bench.

It builds a broad symmetrical rosette, with leaves that taper gradually and recurve near the tips. Trichome cover is heavy and even, holding a consistent pale grey.

Plants start at 7 to 8 inches and go up from there. This is a Mexican species from dry, bright country, and it becomes a genuine feature plant at the larger grades.

Growing Tillandsia roseoscapa thick leaf form: Care Guide

Thick leaves and dense scaling mean drought tolerance. Therefore light matters far more than watering frequency.

  • Light: High light, including direct morning sun. Strong light keeps the rosette tight and the scape colour strong.
  • Water: Soak 20 to 30 minutes every 10 to 14 days.
  • Drying: Invert and shake. A broad rosette collects water right across its centre.
  • Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
  • Temperature: Comfortable from 55°F to 100°F. No frost.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
  • Mounting: No soil. Larger grades are heavy enough to want wire rather than glue.
  • Pups: Offsets follow bloom. Separate at one third the size of the mother.
