About Tillandsia roseoscapa curly

Tillandsia roseoscapa curly leaf form is a selected clone of Tillandsia roseoscapa, a large Mexican species. The standard form has gently arching grey leaves. This clone curls them into tight spirals.

The species can reach impressive sizes. Smalls are already 4 to 5 inches wide, and mediums run 9 to 10 inches. Mature plants keep growing well beyond that.

The leaves are broad, silver-grey and heavily scaled. On this form every leaf twists as it lengthens, so the whole rosette looks like a knot of silver ribbon.

The bloom is a tall branched spike with rosy bracts, which is where the species name comes from. Violet flowers open along it over several weeks.

We offer this clone in two sizes. Because it is a single selected plant multiplied by pups, every one carries the same curl. It is a specimen plant for shops that want something nobody else has.

Growing Tillandsia roseoscapa curly: Care Guide

Roseoscapa grows on rocks and cliffs in dry Mexican country. So it is a sun plant, and the curl tightens further when the plant is kept bright and on the dry side. Overwatered plants relax and lose some of the twist.

  • Light: Very bright light with direct sun for part of the day.
  • Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days. Large plants need a full dunk.
  • Drying: Invert and shake well. Curled leaves trap water where they cross.
  • Airflow: Strong airflow after each soak.
  • Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. It handles cool nights.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
  • Mounting: Wire it to a solid mount. Mature plants are heavy.
  • Pups: One to three pups from the base after bloom. All carry the curl.
