About the Tillandsia pruinosa seleriana hybrid

We’re upfront about this one. It’s an unintentional cross that turned up among our own pruinosa seedlings, and we suspect seleriana as the second parent based on its form. We haven’t confirmed that parentage, so we sell it as a pruinosa hybrid with suspected seleriana influence rather than asserting a pedigree we can’t prove.

Whatever the exact cross, it’s a chunky, easy grower with appealing symmetry. The frosted, bulbous look echoes pruinosa, but reads a touch more substantial, consistent with a seleriana influence on the bulb.

Color shows up nicely at bloom, giving a shop a seasonal reason to feature it beyond its everyday foliage appeal.

This grade ships at 4-6 inches, a comfortable middle size that shows the bulbous form clearly without the higher price of a full specimen.

Because both suspected parents are genuinely easy growers, this hybrid inherits that same low-maintenance character. It suits a buyer newer to bulbous Tillandsias.

Growing the Tillandsia pruinosa seleriana hybrid: Care Guide

Run it xeric, matching both suspected parents. Soak 10-14 days, then invert. Shake out any water trapped in the bulb; that drainage step matters more here than the soak length.

  • Water: Soak 10-14 days, then invert and drain the bulb thoroughly.
  • Light: High light with strong airflow.
  • Feeding: Diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer monthly supports bloom color.
  • Bulb care: Never let water sit trapped inside; that’s the main risk with this form.
  • Bloom: Colors up at flowering; a good seasonal feature plant.

Feed it TillyBoost Fertilizer regularly through the growing season, and see more bulbous species like Tillandsia seleriana in our Rare Air Plants category, or check the air plant care guide for bulb-drainage basics.
