About the kautskyi hybrid silver clone

This kautskyi hybrid silver clone came from the same unintentional cross as our green clone. We think it’s Tillandsia kautskyi x roseiflora, but the cross wasn’t deliberate.

We’re upfront about that uncertainty. Both species were blooming together at the time, so we can’t say with full certainty which flower pollinated which.

This clone carries a heavier silver scale coat than the green clone, and it runs slightly larger, at approximately 4 inches tall.

Both parent species are tiny, rupicolous Brazilian Tillandsias, so this hybrid keeps that same miniature, rock-dwelling character, just in a silvery finish.

An unintentional hybrid like this is a genuine one-off from our own collection. Once this batch sells, a repeat may not come around again.

We’re offering both the silver and green clones from this same accidental cross. That way collectors can choose whichever color form fits their own display best.

Growing the kautskyi hybrid silver clone: Care Guide

Run it xeric, matching both tiny, rock-dwelling parent species. Soak 10-14 days, then invert and shake dry.

  • Water: Soak 10-14 days, then invert and shake dry; this miniature dries fast.
  • Light: High light with strong airflow; the silver scale coat tolerates strong sun well.
  • Feeding: Diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer monthly, at a lighter dose given its small size.
  • Color: Silver form, distinct from the green clone we also carry from the same cross.
  • Availability: A one-off, unintentional hybrid; quantities are genuinely limited.

Feed it TillyBoost Fertilizer on a regular cycle, compare it with our green clone from the same cross, or check the air plant care guide for xeric basics.
