About Tillandsia Magic Blush
Tillandsia Magic Blush crosses ionantha var. stricta with magnusiana, and the cultivar name tells you what it was bred for. As bloom approaches, the whole plant floods red and pink.
Magnusiana is the parent responsible for the texture. It carries very fine, hair-like silver leaves in a dense spherical arrangement, and that softness carries straight through to the hybrid.
Ionantha var. stricta contributes the colour and a tighter, more upright form. Where magnusiana alone is a loose silver ball, Magic Blush holds a neater shape and colours far harder.
Sizes run from 2 inches to 4 inches and up. At this scale the plant works best grouped, where the mass of fine silver foliage reads as texture rather than as individual leaves.
Growing Tillandsia Magic Blush: Care Guide
Fine leaves dry quickly, and the blush is driven by light. Therefore grow it bright and water it a little more often than a thick-leaved species.
- Light: High light, including direct morning sun. Poor light costs you the blush entirely.
- Water: Soak 15 to 20 minutes every 7 to 10 days. Fine foliage holds less reserve than a thick rosette.
- Drying: Shake it out thoroughly. Dense hair-like leaves trap water at the centre.
- Airflow: Strong airflow after each soak, and dry within three hours.
- Temperature: Comfortable from 50°F to 95°F. No frost.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength. Consistent feeding deepens the colour at bloom.
- Mounting: No soil. Glue or wire small plants to cork, grouped rather than spaced out.
- Pups: Offsets follow bloom and come readily. Leave them attached to build a cluster.
