About Tillandsia incarnata
Tillandsia incarnata is an Andean species from Colombia and Ecuador. It grows along a stem, and the leaves are soft, narrow and grey.
It offsets prolifically. Pups form along the stem, and over time a single becomes a large hanging clump of grey rosettes.
The inflorescence is bright red to pink, and it appears at the stem tips in season. On a clump the effect is a scatter of colour across the whole plant.
We grade incarnata from 4-inch mediums to 14-inch specimens, measured along the stem.
It is a hanging plant for growers who want a soft grey mass rather than a single rosette. Specimens are years of growth and sell as finished display pieces.
Growing Tillandsia incarnata: Care Guide
Andean cloud forest means cool nights, humidity and moving air. Incarnata likes a weekly soak and bright shade, and it must hang so the stems can drain. It dislikes heat more than it dislikes cold. Give it a cool, bright, airy spot in summer and keep it well away from heaters in winter. Hung clumps grow into long curtains over the years, and a mature clump in bloom is a centrepiece for a shop window.
- Light: Bright indirect light. Morning sun is fine.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 7 to 10 days. Mist between soaks.
- Drying: Hang to drain. Stems hold water between leaves.
- Airflow: Good airflow, especially for clumps.
- Temperature: 40°F to 85°F. Shade it in hot weather.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer. Feeding speeds up offsets.
- Mounting: Wire the base and hang it. It will trail.
- Pups: Along the stem. Leave them on for the clump.
