This highly sought-after form of gardneri is genuinely more rare than the standard form we also carry. Part of the reason is reproductive: rupicola doesn’t self-pollinate its flowers the way the regular form does.
About gardneri rupicola
We already carry gardneri in a standard form, a Morro do Chapeu clone, and a Rio Deudo clone. Rupicola stands apart from all three on two fronts. Its leaf margin is more serrated than the regular form’s, giving it a slightly rougher visual texture, and its self-pollination limitation means seed production, and therefore new stock, comes along much more slowly.
That slower reproduction is exactly why this form doesn’t show up often in the trade. For a collector who already has the standard gardneri forms, rupicola offers a genuinely different variety within the same species rather than a cosmetic variant. We recommend pricing it accordingly, since the extra rarity and slower propagation genuinely set it apart from the more common gardneri forms.
Growing gardneri rupicola: Care Guide
