This is the blooming crocata dwarf listing: the compact yellow-flowered crocata from our Tillandsia crocata dwarf yellow base listing, shipped while the flowers are open or about to open. Stock appears here only in flowering season.
The flowers are the reason to buy. Each is bright yellow, three-petalled and large for a plant this size, and each carries the sweet crocata scent that fills a room from a single bloom.
Plants are 2 to 3 inches wide, and we sell singles and small clumps. A small clump in flower carries several blooms at once, which multiplies the scent.
Crocata flowers open one or two at a time over a couple of weeks, so a plant bought in bud gives a fortnight of fragrance.
At 75 cents this is the cheapest fragrant flower we sell, and it is an impulse buy at any counter. After flowering, the plant pups readily and quickly grows into a large cluster.
Growing blooming crocata dwarf: Care Guide
While the flowers are open, mist rather than soak, and keep water off the petals; they mark easily and last longer dry. Bright light with some sun keeps the plant compact and brings the next flush of buds. After the last flower, return to a soak every ten days or so with a good shake, because the tight silver rosette holds water at the base. A cool, dry rest over winter sets next year’s flowers. Leave the pups on and the single becomes a scented ball.
- Light: Bright light with direct sun for part of the day.
- Water: Mist every few days while in flower. Soak 15 minutes every 10 to 14 days after.
- Drying: Shake and hang. Clumps hold water in the middle.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. Cool nights encourage bloom.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength; skip while in flower.
- Mounting: Glue to a small piece of wood or set in a shell.
- Pups: Frequent. Leave them on for a ball.
