About Tillandsia concolor x paucifolia

Tillandsia concolor x paucifolia is a natural hybrid found in Mexico, where the two parent species overlap. It combines the stiff, symmetrical rosette of Tillandsia concolor with the swollen base of Tillandsia paucifolia.

The result is a robust silver plant that grows quickly. Smalls are 6 to 8 inches wide, and larges reach 10 to 12 inches. It is bigger than either parent at the same age.

The leaves are firm and grey-green, and they curve outward from a bulbous base. Because both parents are tough, the hybrid handles neglect and shipping well.

At bloom the centre flushes and a branched spike rises with red and green bracts. Purple flowers follow. It is a long-lasting display.

We offer it in two sizes in limited quantity. It is inexpensive for its size, so it works as a volume plant for larger displays and event work.

Growing Tillandsia concolor x paucifolia: Care Guide

Both parents grow in dry Mexican forest and scrub. Therefore grow the hybrid bright and let it dry fully, and watch the bulbous base, which holds water after a soak. Give it airflow and it is one of the easiest plants we sell.

  • Light: Bright light with some direct sun.
  • Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days.
  • Drying: Invert and shake hard. Drain the base.
  • Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
  • Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. No frost.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer. It grows fast when fed.
  • Mounting: Wire the base to wood, or set it in a bowl from our Air Plant Displays.
  • Pups: Two or three pups from the base after bloom.
