About blooming cauligera white

This is the blooming cauligera white form type 2 listing: mature plants from our Tillandsia cauligera white form type 2 base listing, shipped while they are in spike. Stock is limited and appears only when a crop flowers.

Cauligera is a Peruvian stem-forming species with thick, white, heavily scaled leaves, and type 2 is the more spectacular of our two white forms. In bloom a spike rises from the head with rose-pink bracts and violet flowers, and pink on white is as clean a contrast as the genus offers.

Blooming plants may not be as curly as the photo; leaf curl varies with the individual plant and the season. The colour and the spike do not vary.

We grade blooming plants from smalls and mediums to larges and extra-larges. All are of mature size, because only mature plants flower.

At $30 in bloom this is a specimen for a collector or a high-end display. The spike lasts for weeks, and the stem offsets afterward, so the plant becomes a hanging chain of white heads over the years.

Growing blooming cauligera white: Care Guide

White-leaved plants are the driest of the dry. Mist lightly every few days, keep the spike and the head dry, and give it very bright light and strong airflow; the thick scales that make it white also hold moisture, so rot is the only real danger. Never soak it while in flower. Hang the stem so the head is clear and air moves around it. After bloom, a short dip every couple of weeks in dry weather is enough, with mist only in humid conditions. Cool, dry winters bring the next spike.

  • Light: Very bright light with direct sun.
  • Water: Mist every few days. Dip 10 minutes every 10 to 14 days after bloom.
  • Drying: Shake and hang. The stacked white leaves hold water.
  • Airflow: Strong airflow always.
  • Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. Cool nights are welcome.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength; skip while in flower.
  • Mounting: Wire the base and hang the stem.
  • Pups: Along the stem after bloom. Leave them on.
