About Tillandsia capillaris Rose Flower
Tillandsia capillaris normally flowers in muted greens and yellows, which makes this selection worth singling out. The Rose Flower clone produces clear pink blooms instead.
On a plant standing about an inch tall, that colour is a genuine surprise. Customers who know capillaris as a plain miniature tend to stop when they see this one in flower.
The plant itself is typical of the species: short fine grey leaves along a creeping stem, spreading sideways into low mats rather than growing upward.
Capillaris ranges down the Andes from Peru through Bolivia and Chile into Argentina, varying so much across that spread that growers track individual clones. This is one of the few distinguished by flower colour rather than by number.

Tiny plants lose water fast, but Andean origins make this one tough. Therefore water little and often.
- Light: Bright light with direct morning sun. Good light drives the flowering that gives this clone its name.
- Water: Soak 10 minutes weekly, or mist several times a week.
- Drying: Shake mats out thoroughly. Water held between packed plants is the real danger.
- Airflow: Steady airflow, increasing as the mat thickens.
- Temperature: Exceptionally cold hardy, from 35°F to 90°F.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with heavily diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer for better bloom.
- Mounting: No soil. Glue flat to cork or stone and let it creep.
- Pups: It offsets constantly. Never separate them, because the mat is the product.
