About Tillandsia cajamarcensis
Tillandsia cajamarcensis is named for Cajamarca, the northern Peruvian highlands where it grows. That is high, dry, bright country, and the plant is built accordingly.
The rosette is small and dense, built from narrow silver leaves that curve outward evenly. Trichome cover is thick and consistent, so the plant holds its grey-white colour year round.
Rather than growing into one large specimen, cajamarcensis stays compact and offsets steadily. Older plants build into tidy clusters, and a well-grown clump has real presence for its size.
Plants ship at roughly 4 to 6 inches. Peruvian highland species like this one remain uncommon in wholesale, which makes it a useful point of difference on a shelf.
Growing Tillandsia cajamarcensis: Care Guide
High-altitude Andean origins mean bright light and cool tolerance. Therefore it suits growers who cannot offer constant warmth.
- Light: High light, with direct morning sun welcome. Good light keeps the rosette tight and compact.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days. It is genuinely drought hardy.
- Drying: Invert and shake, particularly once the plant starts clustering. Trapped water between offsets is the main risk.
- Airflow: Good steady airflow.
- Temperature: Very cool tolerant, from 40°F to 90°F. Cold nights suit it better than sustained heat.
- Feeding: Feed monthly in the growing season with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
- Mounting: No soil. Mount on cork or rock, or grow the clump loose in an open dish.
