About Tillandsia araujei
Tillandsia araujei is a caulescent species from the coastal rocks of Brazil. It grows along a stem, and the thick, succulent leaves all point toward the light.
The leaves are short, firm and grey-green, and they are packed closely along the stem. Singles are 3 to 4 inches long, and the stem keeps lengthening for years.
The bloom is a rose-pink spike with white flowers, and it appears at the stem tip. A clump in bloom carries many at once.
Araujei clumps fast. Stems branch, and within a few seasons a single becomes a large, symmetrical mound. Those clumps are spectacular, and they sell on sight.

Growing Tillandsia araujei: Care Guide
Araujei grows on sunny rock faces near the sea, so it wants strong light, good airflow and quick drying. The succulent leaves store water, and the plant handles drought easily. Turn it now and then, because the leaves lean toward the light. Old clumps become heavy, so wire them well; a mature mound can weigh more than the branch it grew on.
- Light: Bright light with direct sun for part of the day.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days.
- Drying: Shake and hang. Stems hold water between leaves.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. It tolerates cool nights.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
- Mounting: Wire the base to wood or cork and let the stems branch outward.
- Pups: Constant, along the stem. Leave them on for the mound.
