About the Tillandsia zacapanensis hybrid
This Tillandsia zacapanensis hybrid is a brand-new cross we made here at Davis Farms between zacapanensis and streptophylla. This is our first offering of it, and we still haven’t seen it bloom, so we’re only releasing a small number of plants while we watch how it develops.
Mature plants run 8-9 inches wide and 4-5 inches tall, combining the curling, moisture-storing bulb of streptophylla with the sturdier growth habit of zacapanensis.
Because this cross is so new, no two collections will have seen it before; it’s a genuine first for buyers who want something no one else is carrying yet.
We’re keeping quantities tight on purpose, since we’d rather grow most of this generation to full maturity before releasing more broadly.
A first-release, farm-bred hybrid like this gives a shop a real story to tell, and a chance to be first to market with a cross that doesn’t exist anywhere else yet.
Because we haven’t yet seen a bloom cycle on this cross, the eventual flower color and spike shape are still a genuine unknown even to us; buyers are getting in on the ground floor of a plant we’re still learning about ourselves.
Growing the Tillandsia zacapanensis hybrid: Care Guide
Run it xeric, matching both bulbous, silver-leaved parents. Soak 10-14 days, then invert and shake dry so the bulb drains fully.
