About capillaris Type 2 clumps

capillaris Type 2 is one of several numbered stock ranges we carry of Tillandsia capillaris. Like our other numbered capillaris listings, the number marks a growing batch and source range rather than a separately named form — we’re not going to invent a distinguishing story where the real answer is “a different range of the same plant.”

What Type 2 offers is a small clump of 3-5 plants at one of our lowest capillaris price points. It’s essentially an entry-level way to stock this species: enough plants clustered together to look intentional, priced for volume.

Capillaris is a wiry, grass-like clumper that fills in on its own with basic care, so a 3-5 plant starting clump gives a buyer a fast path to a fuller mat without paying for one of our larger, more established batches.

It suits a value shelf or a teaching display where price matters more than presentation size, and it multiplies on its own once it settles in.

Because it’s priced at the low end of our lineup, it also works well as a bulk fill item alongside pricier specimen-grade air plants.

Growing capillaris Type 2: Care Guide

Run this clump on a standard xeric schedule. Soak it 10-14 days, then invert and shake out any water pooled between the small plants.

  • Water: Soak 10-14 days, then invert and shake dry.
  • Light: High light with strong airflow.
  • Feeding: Diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer monthly helps the clump fill in.
  • Mounting: Works well glued in small groups with E-6000 Tillandsia Glue.
  • Clumping: Leave the 3-5 plants attached; they multiply on their own.

Feed it TillyBoost Fertilizer on a regular cycle, browse more entry-level clumpers in our Rare Air Plants category, or read the air plant care guide for soak-and-dry basics. Reference: Tillandsia.
