About blooming Tillandsia victoriana
This is the blooming Tillandsia victoriana listing: the ionantha x brachycaulos hybrid from our Tillandsia victoriana base listing, shipped in and around its flowering window. Stock is added here when a crop is coming into colour.
Victoriana blooms hot pink. The whole rosette flushes, from the brachycaulos side, and violet tubular flowers open from the centre, from the ionantha side. It is one of the strongest colour shows among the inexpensive hybrids.
Plants are shipped at whatever stage the crop is in. At the time of writing they are not yet in blush, so check the listing note; stock moves from green to pink over a few weeks as the season turns.
We grade it from minis and 3-inch smalls through 4-inch mediums and 5-inch larges to 6-inch extra-larges and specimens.
The flush lasts for weeks, and this hybrid clumps fast, so a plant bought in colour becomes a clump of them by the following year. At $3 it is an easy add to a retail order.
Growing blooming Tillandsia victoriana: Care Guide
Light is what brings and holds the pink. Give it bright light with direct sun for part of the day from the moment it arrives, and a green plant colours up as its buds develop. Water it weekly as normal until the flowers open, then mist for the couple of weeks the flowers last, keeping the centre dry. Unlike pure brachycaulos, it does not want water standing in the rosette, so invert and shake after every soak. After bloom, feed it monthly and it pups quickly from the base.
- Light: Bright light with direct sun for part of the day. Sun brings the pink.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 7 to 10 days; mist only while the flowers are open.
- Drying: Invert and shake. Do not leave water in the rosette.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: 45°F to 95°F. No frost.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer. Feeding deepens the colour.
- Mounting: Glue to wood or set in a holder from our Air Plant Displays.
- Pups: Two to four after bloom. Clumps build fast.
