Description
About Tillandsia tenebra
Tillandsia tenebra is similar to gilliesii, but it tends to grow larger. It’s a very rarely offered collector species, and we’re only releasing a few plants at this time.
Its deep maroon flowers set it apart from most of its Diaphoranthema relatives, which tend toward paler pinks and violets.
Because it’s so closely compared to gilliesii, tenebra is often sought out by collectors who already grow that species and want the larger, darker-flowered relative.
Stock is genuinely limited, so we can’t offer the size grading we do on higher-volume species; each plant we release is close to one of a kind.
A rarely offered collector species like this rewards a shop willing to hold a small, tight supply for serious buyers rather than move volume.
Because it’s slower to reach the trade than most Diaphoranthema species, tenebra rarely appears on a wholesale list at all. This is a genuine chance to add it.
Buyers building out a Diaphoranthema collection will find tenebra a natural next step after loliacea, andicola, or angulosa.
Its larger size compared to gilliesii also makes it easier to display and photograph, which helps when a species is this uncommon and unfamiliar to most buyers.
