About Tillandsia diaguitensis large

Tillandsia diaguitensis large form is a selected clone of a fragrant Argentine Tillandsia. It is at least twice the size of the regular form, and the leaves are thicker and the stems stouter.

The flowers are the same as the species: white, large and citrus-scented. On this form they open on a longer stalk, so they stand clear of the leaves.

It grows along a stem and pups freely. Our clumps run from 6 to 12 inches tall, each with mini pups attached, and we also sell singles in three sizes.

Older clumps carry a little algae on the lower stems, which comes with age and does not affect the plant.

Where the regular diaguitensis is a volume plant, the large form is a display and scent plant. A 12-inch clump in bloom is a fragrant centrepiece at a modest price.

Growing Tillandsia diaguitensis large: Care Guide

Care is the same as the species: sun, air and little water. The thicker leaves store more, so the large form tolerates drought even better, and dense clumps need a hard shake after every soak because water collects between the stems. For display, hang a clump where air moves and light is strong; the larger leaves show their silver best in sun, and the longer flower stalks stand clear of the foliage when the plant is not crowded.

  • Light: Bright light with direct sun for part of the day.
  • Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days.
  • Drying: Shake hard from several angles. Hang clumps to drain.
  • Airflow: Strong airflow for clumps.
  • Temperature: 35°F to 95°F. Cool nights encourage bloom.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer. Feeding increases flower count.
  • Mounting: Wire the clump and hang it so the flower stalks stand clear.
  • Pups: Constant, along the stems. Sell clumps whole.
