This hybrid between aeranthos and ixioides is genuinely easy to grow, and its blooms are quite unusual, showing grey and brown coloring rather than the bright colors either parent typically produces alone.
About aeranthos ixioides hybrid
We started these seedlings back in 2017, and we finally have a few bloomers ready to offer as small clumps. Both parent species are xeric growers already in our catalog, and this cross keeps that same easy, low-maintenance character while adding a flower color that stands out from either parent’s typical bloom.
Because it took years of growing before the first blooms appeared, this is a genuinely new release for us, not an established line. The grey-brown flower color alone makes it worth a spot in a collector’s display, since it’s not a shade you see often in this genus. If you already stock our other aeranthos forms, this hybrid gives customers a genuinely different bloom color to compare against the more common purples and golds.
Growing aeranthos ixioides hybrid: Care Guide
Treat it like the xeric species on either side of its parentage. Soak for 10 to 14 days, then invert and shake out any trapped water thoroughly. Give it bright light and strong airflow so it dries fully between waterings.
