About the ceramic cholla pot
The ceramic cholla pot is a handcrafted ceramic copy of natural cholla wood, the lacy, hole-riddled skeleton of the cholla cactus. It gives you the look of the real thing in a piece that never rots, never sheds and can be wiped clean.
Each pot is about 3.8 inches tall and 1.8 inches across, upright like a short length of cholla, with an open top to hold a plant.
They are sold in packs of ten at $25 a pack. Because they are hand crafted and hand painted, minor imperfections are normal and no two are exactly the same. That is part of the effect.
Large orders ship by UPS or FedEx Ground and may carry an additional shipping charge, which we bill separately.
For a shop, this is the desert-look display without the drawbacks of real wood. It pairs with silver plants and stands on its own. Ten pots at $2.50 each leave room for a healthy margin on the finished piece.
Using the ceramic cholla pot with air plants
The open top takes a slim-based plant: funckiana, juncea or juncifolia, a small ionantha or a young stricta all sit well. Set the plant in loose so it can be lifted for watering. The ceramic tube has no drainage, and water left inside will rot the base. Soak the plant separately, shake it out, let it dry and return it. The pierced sides let air move around the base, which helps. A thin bead of E-6000 Tillandsia Glue on the rim will hold a top-heavy plant if needed.
- Fits: Slim-based plants: funckiana, juncea, juncifolia, small ionantha, young stricta.
- Mounting: Set in loose, or glue a stem plant to the rim.
- Watering: Lift the plant out to soak. Never fill the tube.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer during the soak.
- Placement: Bright light. Ceramic tolerates a sunny window.
- Care of the pot: Wipe dry; hand painted, so do not scrub.
