Tillandsia gilliesii minor Peru is a smaller, Peruvian-collected form of the species we also carry as the standard gilliesii. Both are rare miniatures, but this one runs noticeably more compact.
About Tillandsia gilliesii Peru
Gilliesii belongs to the Diaphoranthema subgenus, the group of tiny, wiry Tillandsia species native to the dry Andes and adjacent lowlands of South America. Our standard gilliesii listing is a Bolivian, seed-grown form; this minor Peru form comes from further west and stays smaller at every stage of growth.
Because it’s so compact, this form suits collectors who want the genuine gilliesii look without the space the major form eventually needs. We recommend mounting it on cork, which lets it cluster naturally the way it would on a branch in the wild. Pairing the two forms side by side in a display case makes for a nice size comparison and gives buyers a reason to pick up both.
Growing Tillandsia gilliesii Peru: Care Guide
Like other Diaphoranthema miniatures, gilliesii Peru wants bright light and excellent airflow so it dries out fully between waterings. Mist or soak briefly, then let it dry within a few hours; because it’s so small, sitting wet for long stretches invites rot.
