About Houston Red Princess
Houston Red Princess is a color-form selection within the “Houston” hybrid line, a cross between Tillandsia stricta and Tillandsia recurvifolia. We’re being straightforward here: we can confirm the Houston group’s parentage, but “Red Princess” itself is a trade name we could not trace to a documented registry entry, so we’re not assigning it a breeder story we can’t back up.
What we can describe with confidence is the plant in front of us. Its foliage runs an iridescent silvery-purple when dry, then greens up noticeably once watered, a shift that makes it fun to display right after a soak. Leaves stay soft rather than stiff.
At bloom, a dark pink to lilac spike carries red-pink flowers.
Stock runs an unusually wide range of grades, from a 3-inch Small single up through an 11-inch Giant, plus a small clump option with three or more pups attached, so a shop can stock nearly the full price ladder from one listing.
Like other Houston-group hybrids, it’s a genuinely easy, forgiving plant, which is likely why the line has stayed popular in the trade regardless of the individual color-form names attached to it.
