About Tillandsia chusgonensis

Tillandsia chusgonensis is a small Tillandsia from northern Peru. Mature plants are only 1.5 to 2.5 inches across, and every leaf is covered in fuzzy white trichomes. It looks like a tiny tectorum.

The leaves are narrow and tightly packed, so the rosette is dense. The bloom is a short pink spike with small white flowers that carry a lilac base.

It is slow, but it is prolific. A single produces pups steadily and eventually forms a tight mound of white rosettes. Our clumps hold 6 to 8 plants.

We offer singles and clumps. Clumps are the better value, because they represent years of growth.

Chusgonensis is a miniature with presence. It belongs in a terrarium display or on a small piece of cork where its texture can be seen up close.

Growing Tillandsia chusgonensis: Care Guide

Peruvian dry slopes mean sun and air. The white coat is a sun shield, so use it. It is also one of the most heat-sensitive miniatures we grow. Keep it out of hot still rooms in summer, and give it the coolest bright spot you have. Cool nights keep the coat tight and white.

  • Light: Very bright light with direct sun.
  • Water: Mist or dunk briefly every 10 to 14 days. Avoid long soaks.
  • Drying: Invert and shake. Dense clumps need moving air to dry.
  • Airflow: Constant airflow.
  • Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. Cool nights are welcome.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly every 4 to 6 weeks with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer.
  • Mounting: Glue to cork or stone. Never enclose it in a sealed container.
  • Pups: Slow and steady. Leave them attached.
