About Feather Duster
Feather Duster is a documented hybrid between Tillandsia stricta and Tillandsia gardneri, credited to hybridizer Mark Dimmitt and also listed in the RHS plant database, which confirms it as an established cultivar rather than just a trade nickname. That paper trail is more than most named forms in the trade can claim.
Its name describes the look accurately: many narrow, soft, silvery leaves radiate out into an open rosette that can reach roughly 8 inches across at full size, echoing the shape of the household object it’s named for.
At bloom, pink bracts rise from the center of the rosette.
We carry it in two grades, a 5-6 inch Large and an 8-inch-plus Extra Large, both large enough to show off the full radiating leaf form.
It’s also known as a strong offsetter, producing pups readily, which makes it a practical choice for a shop that wants to multiply its own stock of a named hybrid over time rather than only reordering. A single Large specimen can build into a saleable clump within a couple of growing seasons under decent light.
