About Tillandsia stricta green
Tillandsia stricta green is the standard green form of Tillandsia stricta, a Brazilian species that is one of the easiest and most widely grown air plants in the world.
Plants vary in shape. Some grow soft and graceful with narrow leaves; others have a thicker base and wider leaves. Both are the same species, and both bloom the same way.
The bloom is a drooping cone of pink bracts with purple flowers, and it lasts for weeks. Plants are not in bloom at this time.
Depending on the season, some plants arrive with purple leaf tips. That is natural colouring from bright light, not browning or rot.
We grade it from 2-inch smalls to 6-inch extra-larges, plus small and medium clumps. At 75 cents it is the workhorse of any wholesale order.
Growing Tillandsia stricta green: Care Guide
Stricta comes from humid coastal Brazil, so it likes regular water and bright shade. It is forgiving, but the dense rosette holds water, so drying still matters. It is the plant we recommend to anyone starting out. Because it is so common, it is also the plant most often overwatered in shops; if a stricta is failing, the fix is nearly always less water and more air.
- Light: Bright indirect light. Morning sun is fine.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 7 days. Mist between soaks in dry air.
- Drying: Invert and shake. Do not leave water in the centre.
- Airflow: Good airflow after each soak.
- Temperature: 45°F to 95°F. No frost.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer. Feeding brings on bloom.
- Mounting: Glue to wood or set in a holder. It suits every piece in our Air Plant Displays.
- Pups: Two to four pups after bloom. Clumps form quickly.
