About Tillandsia seleriana x circinnatoides
Tillandsia seleriana x circinnatoides pairs two bulbous Mexican and Central American species. Both parents build a swollen base, so the hybrid has a heavier, more architectural shape than its 6 to 8 inch height suggests.
Seleriana contributes the thick chalky felt and the fat pseudobulb. Circinnatoides contributes a tidier, more upright leaf arrangement and a slightly finer texture.
The trichome coat is heavy across the whole plant. In strong light it reads pale grey to near white, and the bulb itself is the palest part.
At this size and price it is an easy plant to stock in quantity. It has the sculptural look buyers associate with far more expensive specimens.
Growing Tillandsia seleriana x circinnatoides: Care Guide
Two bulbous parents mean one dominant rule. Therefore mounting angle matters more than watering frequency.
- Light: High light. Strong light keeps the felt white and the form compact.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days. The bulb stores water, so it tolerates neglect.
- Drying: The critical rule. Mount it sideways or bulb-down and shake it out every time, because water standing in the hollow base rots the plant from within.
- Airflow: Strong airflow after watering. Dry within four hours.
- Temperature: Comfortable from 55°F to 100°F. No frost.
- Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
- Mounting: No soil. Wire it at an angle on cork or wood so the base drains freely.
- Pups: Offsets form around the bulb after bloom. Separate at one third the size of the mother.
