About Tillandsia reducta
Tillandsia reducta is a small, restrained plant, and the name reflects that. Everything about it is scaled down: short leaves, a compact rosette and slow, deliberate growth.
Leaves are narrow, stiff and evenly silvered, curving gently outward from a tight centre. The trichome coat is dense enough that the plant reads grey-white rather than green in any light.
It offsets steadily rather than growing large. Older plants build into neat clusters that hold their shape, and a well-grown clump carries far more presence than the size alone suggests.
We offer three grades, from 2 inches through to 6 inches. The larger sizes are usually clustered plants rather than one big rosette, which is how the species naturally develops.
Growing Tillandsia reducta: Care Guide
Small, stiff and heavily scaled means built for dry exposure. Therefore keep it bright and lean on the water.
- Light: High light with direct morning sun. Good light keeps growth compact rather than stretched.
- Water: Soak 15 minutes every 10 days. Short soaks suit small plants better than long ones.
- Drying: Shake it out well, particularly once it starts clustering. Trapped water between offsets is the main risk.
- Airflow: Steady airflow, increasing as the clump thickens.
- Temperature: Comfortable from 45°F to 90°F. It handles cool nights without trouble.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength. Feeding noticeably speeds up clustering.
- Mounting: No soil. Glue or wire it to cork and leave room for the cluster to widen.
- Pups: It offsets freely. Leave pups attached, since clumps sell better than singles.
