About Tillandsia ionantha Druid
Tillandsia ionantha Druid breaks the ionantha rule. Most clones blush red and open purple flowers. Druid instead turns bright yellow at bloom and opens pure white flowers.
It is a selected form of Tillandsia ionantha, a species from Mexico and Central America. The leaves are soft green, and the rosette is slightly larger and more open than Rosita.
Because it looks so different in bloom, Druid pairs well with red-blushing ionanthas on the same bench. Retailers use it to add contrast to mixed displays and kits.
We grow Druid in three single sizes plus clumps with two to three pups. We also sell clumps already mounted on wire, ready to hang.
Druid pups freely, and the clumps carry the same yellow blush across every head at once. A clump in bloom is a strong photo plant for social media, and it moves quickly in retail.
Growing Tillandsia ionantha Druid: Care Guide
Care is the same as any ionantha, so it slots into an existing routine without changes.
- Light: Bright light with some direct morning sun. Good light brings on the yellow blush.
- Water: Soak 20 minutes every 7 to 10 days. More often in dry indoor air.
- Drying: Invert and shake. Do not leave water sitting in the rosette.
- Airflow: Fresh moving air after each soak.
- Temperature: 45°F to 95°F. No frost.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer at quarter strength.
- Mounting: Wire, glue or set loose in a holder. Wired clumps hang straight from the box.
- Pups: Pups after bloom. Leave them on and the clump doubles every year or two.
