The plant is the big crocata, two to three times the size of the yellow dwarf, with longer silver leaves, and a mature plant in bloom carries several flowers at once.

Flowers open over two or three weeks, so a plant bought in bud gives a long display. Afterward it clumps readily into large balls, which is the plant you sell next year.

Keep the flowers dry. Mist the leaves rather than soaking while they are open, and keep water off the petals, which mark and drop early when wet. Sun and moving air keep the plant compact and bring on the remaining buds. After the last flower, return to a soak every ten days or so with a hard shake, and hang balls so water cannot sit in the middle. A cool, dry winter rest brings next spring’s flowers, and feeding through summer increases their number.
- Light: Bright light with direct sun for part of the day.
- Water: Mist while in flower. Soak 20 minutes every 10 to 14 days after.
- Drying: Shake hard from several angles. Hang balls to drain.
- Airflow: Good airflow, especially for clumps.
- Temperature: 40°F to 95°F. Cool nights encourage bloom.
- Feeding: Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer; skip while in flower.
- Mounting: Wire the base and hang it. Balls form on their own.
- Pups: Constant. Never divide a good ball.
