Description

This form of capitata is similar to our capitata red Coral listing, but with softer leaves and different coloring when it comes into bloom, earning it the name ‘Blood Orange’.

About capitata Blood Orange

We already carry capitata in several forms: Yellow Large, red Coral, red Chiapas, v. domingensis, and a Green Leaf form. ‘Blood Orange’ sits alongside those as another distinct color and texture variant within the species. Its leaves feel noticeably softer to the touch than the red Coral form, and its bloom shows a deeper, warmer color that gives the cultivar its name.

Having this many capitata forms side by side lets a buyer build an entire capitata color display from one species, which is a strong selling point for a shop that wants to showcase variety within a single, easy-to-grow plant.

Give it strong light to preserve the deep orange color, since lower light shifts the foliage back toward plain green. Growers who want the boldest color for retail display should keep this one in a bright, sunny spot rather than filtered shade.

Growing capitata Blood Orange: Care Guide

Water it the way you would our other capitata forms: soak for 5 to 10 days, then invert fully so water drains out completely. Give it bright, indirect light to bring out the richest bloom color.

Feed monthly with diluted TillyBoost Fertilizer. Display it alongside our other capitata forms to show the range within the species; see our Air Plant Displays for options. For general care guidance, visit our Air Plant Care page. Learn more about the species at Tillandsia capitata on Wikipedia.
