Description

Tillandsia brealitoensis takes its name from Brealito, the small town in Argentina’s Salta province near where it was first collected. It’s a genuinely rare miniature, and one we don’t often have available.

About Tillandsia brealitoensis

This species grows as an epiphyte high in the Valle CalchaquĆes, at elevations around 2,350 meters. In habitat, it shares its perch with other Diaphoranthema relatives like gilliesii, hirta, aizoides, and capillaris, all clustered on the same shrubs at altitude. That kind of company tells you a lot: these are tough, high-elevation miniatures built for intense light and cold nights.

Like its Diaphoranthema cousins already in our catalog, brealitoensis stays small and forms tight clusters over time rather than growing as a single dramatic rosette. It’s a collector’s plant more than a centerpiece, valued for its rarity and its place in a broader Diaphoranthema collection.

Growing Tillandsia brealitoensis: Care Guide

Treat brealitoensis like the other high-elevation Diaphoranthema species in our catalog. Give it bright light and excellent airflow, and let it dry out completely between waterings. Because it comes from a cold, high-altitude habitat, it tolerates cooler nights better than lowland species do, so don’t worry about keeping it as warm as your tropical air plants.

Feed sparingly with a diluted dose of TillyBoost Fertilizer once a month, since a plant this small is easy to overfeed. Mount it on a small piece of cork alongside other miniatures; see our Air Plant Displays for options. For general care guidance, visit our Air Plant Care page.
