Description
Tillandsia paleacea ssp. apurimacensis is a compact, caulescent air plant native to the ApurÃmac region of Peru. It is distinguished from the typical species by small, silvery leaves that are subtly wider and less scurfy. It is odorless and blooms readily with small purple flowers.
Key Characteristics
- Origins: Found in the ApurÃmac province of Peru, typically at elevations between 2,000 and 2,500 meters.
- Appearance: Long grown in the trade under the name Tillandsia streptocarpa ‘mini,’ it has silvery-white foliage with flexible, gracefully recurving leaves that stack into tight, attractive clumps.
- Flowers: Produces a short, simple inflorescence with a single pale green or pinkish bract, opening to purple or bluish three-petaled flowers with a white base. Unlike its relative T. streptocarpa, it is completely odorless.
- Cultivation: An easy grower in bright, indirect, or filtered light. It clumps heavily and can carry many bloom spikes at once.
