Description
Tillandsia Botteri is native to Mexico, specifically found in Veracruz. Tillandsia Botteri is a stunning species with a positive glow in the sun. Its inflorescence features a combination of red, orange, and yellow-green colors. The tips of its floral bracts are often heavily “frosted” with lepidote scales.
Growth Habit: It typically forms a tank-type rosette, with plants flowering at a height of 43-70 cm and rosettes reaching up to 60 cm in diameter. The plants can be caespitose (growing in tufts) to solitary and are stemless.
Leaves: The numerous leaves have brown to purple, lustrous sheaths that are oblong to ovate, measuring 4-8 cm long and 3-4 cm wide. Both surfaces of the leaves are densely punctulate-lepidote.
Habitat: It is found in various habitats, including deciduous forests, pine forests, and riparian vegetation at elevations between 450 and 1560 meters.
Naming: The species epithet “botteri” honors Mateo Botteri (1808-1877), an Italian naturalist who collected plants in Mexico.
