Description
Racinaea dyeriana, still widely traded under its older name Tillandsia dyeriana, is a glossy green species best known for its pendulous orange bloom spike. It gives wholesale buyers a genus outside standard Tillandsia to round out a rare or specialty display.
About Racinaea Dyeriana
Dyeriana was reclassified into the genus Racinaea, a close relative of Tillandsia with similar overall care needs, though it is still commonly sold under its original Tillandsia dyeriana name in the trade. Its most striking feature is its bloom: a bright orange inflorescence that extends downward from the rosette like a fish tail, a distinctive shape unlike the upright spikes most Tillandsias produce. The foliage itself is a glossy, healthy green, giving the plant visual appeal even outside of bloom season.
Mature plants reach about 6 inches tall, a manageable size for individual sale or a mixed rare-plant display. Unlike many xeric air plants, dyeriana prefers a good amount of water and does best mounted or planted in a bark-and-peat mix rather than left completely bare-root, so retailers should set buyer expectations accordingly.
