Description

Neoregelia ‘Kahala Dawn’ is a highly decorative and popular hybrid, prized for its dynamic coloring and strong, symmetrical form.

The base color of the leaves is typically a bright, apple-green which is overlaid and accented with intense, fiery shades ranging from deep rosy-pink to scarlet red and sometimes a glowing orange-red stripe near the leaf edges.

Spotting/Banding: Some specimens exhibit subtle banding or light spotting (often a slightly deeper red) across the leaf surface, which adds texture and complexity to the overall look.

Blushing/Tank Color: As the plant approaches blooming, the center of the rosette (the “tank”) often floods with a brilliant, solid red or deep pink color, creating a stark contrast with the outer leaves.

Size: This cultivar is considered medium-sized, typically reaching a diameter of about 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) at maturity.

Optimal Light: To achieve the most vibrant and deepest red/pink coloration, ‘Kahala Dawn’ requires bright, indirect or filtered light. A few hours of mild morning sun can significantly boost the color saturation.

Watering: As a tank bromeliad, maintain clean water in the central cup, flushing it every few weeks. Water the roots sparingly—the plant is epiphytic and can be susceptible to rot in heavy, consistently wet soil.

With its stunning blend of greens and sunset reds, ‘Kahala Dawn’ truly lives up to its name, bringing the warmth of the tropics into its environment.
